But over time, analyzing death was no longer enough: he wanted to understand the minds of those who cause it.

It was this desire to go further that pushed him to become an independent profiler. Working for himself gives him that freedom of movement, straight-talking manner, and independence of spirit that are indispensable when navigating gray areas. With his surgical eye and sharp mind, he dissects criminal psychology with clinical precision.

Creating Ryan allowed me to weave rigorous scientific expertise directly into the heart of the plot. I wanted a character who has witnessed horror up close on the autopsy table and chooses to use that science to understand the criminal mind before the worst happens. That bridge between legal coldness and psychology is what makes his profile so fascinating to write.
